Samsung QLED TVs Comparison: Which TV Model Should You Buy?

compare samsung qled tvs

Samsung continues to develop and market QLED TVs. So if you are looking to buy a high-end TV, you should definitely take a look at one of them. In 2021, many new models appeared: Q60A, Q70A, Q80A, QN85A, QN90A. The lineup starts with the basic Q60A and ends with the “premium” QN90A, so no matter how much you want to spend on a new TV, you’ll find something to fit your budget.

Samsung Q60A, Q70A, Q80A, QN85A models comparison, and explanation.

Let’s take a look at Samsung’s 2021 TV lineup. Samsung’s QLED series TVs are the 6, 7, 8 and 9 series. The eighth and ninth series offer the new 2021 Neo QLED TVs. These are the QN85A and QN90A models. We’ve already compared the 2021 models to the 2020 models, and in this article I want to compare all the 2021 models to help you make the best choice.

This will help you make the right choice when buying a new TV. If you want to compare all the technical specifications, then at the end of the article there is a table with a full comparison of the QLED TV specifications.

How different are QLED screens across different Samsung QLED TVs?

  1. Displays in TVs differ in production technology. For example, the QN85A and QN90A have a new screen type that Samsung began production in 2021. These screens are commercially named Neo QLED. Neo QLED TVs have thousands of small LEDs that allow dimming in small areas and significantly improve picture quality. Note that the Q85A has screens made using IPS technology, given that Samsung has not previously produced IPS screens, perhaps these are screens from another manufacturer.
  2. Neo QLED screens support true 10-bit color depth. QLED screens of the previous generation (such screens are installed in TVs Q80A, Q70A, Q60A) have a matrix with 8-bit color depth to achieve more colors using anti-aliasing (fast blinking of the screen backlight).
  3. The Q80A has a backlight evenly spaced behind the screen. The Q70A and Q60A models are illuminated at the edges. This is even worse, as it does not allow the full use of screen dimming technology.
  4. Separately, you can consider the Q60A series. Even though it is still a QLED TV, these TVs have screens with minimal technical capabilities. They can only display 60 frames per second, compared to 120 Hz in other models. Considering a large number of TV models with screens from 43 to 85 inches (there are 8 TV models in total in the Q60A series), it can be assumed that this TV uses third-party screens.

Samsung QLED 2021 processors

You should understand that the names, Neo Quantum Processor 4K, Quantum Processor 4K, Neo Quantum Processor 4K Lite, are the commercial names of the processors.

In fact, most likely the TVs Q70A, Q80A and QN85A, QN90A have almost the same processors. There may be slight differences, but Samsung did not disclose this information.

The Q60A series processor is less powerful because it only supports a maximum frame rate of 60Hz per second.

Samsung QLED TVs 2021 sound

The higher the sound quality on the TV, the better the sound quality when using the built-in speakers. However, if you are using external speakers, it doesn’t matter.

TVs Q80A, QN85A, QN90A have subwoofers, which allows you to receive high quality sound without external speakers. The built-in speakers have a power of 60 W.

Models Q60A, Q70A are cheaper, therefore TVs of this series have two speakers. The TVs support Object Tracking Sound and Surround Sound.

Samsung QLED TVs 2021 operating system

Samsung’s 2021 QLED TV models use the new and improved Tizen 6.0 operating system. Also added a PC sharing function and Samsung Health app for health monitoring.

A new game bar has also been added to make it easier to use the TV as a monitor. In addition, starting with the Q70A, Samsung QLED TVs also support FreeSync.

Samsung QLED TV ports

We can say that everything is standard when it comes to HDMI. TVs have HDMI 2.0 ports and one 2.1 port each.

Please note that the Q60A does not have an HDMI 2.1 port. Since it is the cheapest model, it only has HDMI 2.0 ports.

Which QLED TV should you buy?

If you are looking for the cheapest QLED TV, you can buy the Q60A, but this is not the best solution. Slightly better, but no local dimming – this is the Q70A. However, in my opinion, the best choice would be to buy the Q80A.

If you want the highest quality TV, then check out the Q85A. It has an IPS screen (probably made by BOE). And if you want the very best TV, then buy the Q90A.
